There are several ways voice recordings can be created:
- You can call into a voice mail box, record the greeting and have the system email a WAV file to you.
- You can use other software on your computer and a microphone.
The system can automatically convert some formats, but for ideal, consistent results, follow this process.
Start with a standard WAV file. If your audio is in a different format, you can convert it at www.media.io or using other conversion tools.
Download Audacity, an open-source audio editor and recording program. There are versions for both Windows and Mac.
Open your WAV file in Audacity.
In the bottom left corner, change the project rate (Hz) to 8000.
In the TRACKS menu at the top, select STEREO TRACK TO MONO. If it is grayed out, this step is not necessary.
From the FILE menu at the top, select EXPORT. Save as a WAV (Microsoft) signed 16 bit PCM format.
This can also be used for converting music on hold.
